Welcome to the Mary Queen of Plots website. Yes, I am making a terrible pun on Mary Queen of Scots, that other Mary Stewart/Stuart. I am looking forward to sharing my love of Mary Stewart’s books and hope to hear from other fans. It’s fair to say I love everything Mary Stewart has written and my favourite book is – probably, usually – Madam, Will You Talk? What’s your favourite?
Welcome

Madam, Will You Talk? excerpt in The Bulletin, July 1956 Selections, Doubleday One Dollar Book Club, New York. Illustrator unknown
My favorite is Nine Coaches Waiting. Just read it for my 2nd time and I liked it even better on my reprise. The literary references, wonderful characters, and gothic plot make this a winner for me. Can’t wait to read it again!

Yes, it’s got everything, hasn’t it? I love Linda’s relationship with poor little unloved Philippe

There is so much to love in this novel! It so reads like a Ann Radcliffe or Wilkie Collins. Deliciously creepy!

Yes – the bit in the roof space of William Blake’s hut/house gives me goosebumps, definitely creepy!

That’s my favorite part in the book. Even on the second read, I had to take a quick peek at the end of the chapter to make sure they survived! Sooooooooo tense!

Ooh you peek ahead – I’ve never done that! Mary Stewart writes tension so very well

Finding a blog about one of my all time favourite authors. Definitely that is one of the good things that happened this week. I am planning to read your blogposts from the first one onwards and am really looking forward to that.
Along with Virginia Woolf and Etty Hillesum only Mary Stewart has a shelf of her own in my bookcase. My favourite book is The Moonspinners.
Each year I (re)read at least one of her books. Always choosing them in order of being published. having finished them all I happily start all over again.

Welcome to the blog, Cath! It’s wonderful that you enjoy reading and re-reading Mary Stewart’s writing so much. I admire your re-reading strategy, mine never managed to be so organised but I am attempting a more chronological approach nowadays so that I can put up ‘Pages’ about each novel on this blog. And your favourite Mary Stewart, The Moon-Spinners, will be next to have its own page.
I love Virginia Woolf too but I have to admit to never having heard of Etty Hillesum: that is something I must put right.
I hope that you will enjoy my blog. I’d be fascinated to know how you found it or heard of it.

For quite some years I am enjoying following Cornflower’s blog. She mentioned yours a couple of days ago.

Thanks, Cath, that is good to know. Cornflower Books is a fantastic blog, I’m confident every good book ever written must feature in that blog somewhere, it must be the deepest, widest, highest, best book blog!
